Walk
Difficulty Ratings
GREEN
walks are
considered by us to be easy for a person of average fitness
and mobility levels. There may be clearly marked paths on a
green walk, but these could be muddy, uneven or in poor
condition depending on the time of year. You may encounter
obstacles such as traversable walls or stiles and there are
probably going to be some low-level hills. Unfortunately,
none of Out & About's hikes, even the green ones, are
recommended for people with mobility issues (unless
specifically stated otherwise on the Calendar
Page).
AMBER
walks are
of moderate difficulty for a person of average fitness and
mobility levels. Moderate walks will almost definitely
feature hilly stretches: some of these may be quite steep
or prolonged in places and could be rocky or uneven. There
may be obstacles such as narrow streams to jump across as
well as traversable walls and stiles. The pace, duration or
distance of an amber walk may be increased compared to a
green walk. There is sometimes, but not always, a
pre-arranged splinter group on an amber walk who will take
a slightly less challenging route. The Calendar Page
will provide details of
alternative routes for splinter groups where applicable.
RED
walks
should be considered as quite a challenge
- but think of how firm your
buttocks will be by the end of the day! If you haven't
hiked before (either with us or with another group)
we don't
recommend that you make a red walk your first
one. Red walks will
probably feature similar terrain to amber walks, but are
likely to be longer or feature more prolonged hilly
sections. They may also be at a faster pace than green or
amber walks. There is often, but not always, a pre-arranged
splinter group on a red walk who will take a slightly less
challenging route. The Calendar Page
will provide details of
alternative routes for splinter groups where
applicable.
